Kauai Surf Lessons

SOUTH SHORE: Learn to surf at Poipu Beach with instruction from the professionals of Aloha Surf Lessons. Check in at at the beach park on the east side of the Sheraton Poipu Resort. Lessons are held daily at 9am, 11am, and 1pm.

After meeting your instructor, the first part of the lesson happens on dry land ... you will learn how to position yourself on the board, how to stand up, and the correct posture to adopt while riding the wave. Then it's just a few steps out to the beach where you'll paddle out and start your in-water lesson.

The beach at Poipu is a great place to learn with a nice sandy bottom and consisten surf break suitable for beginners. Instructors help you into position to wait for a wave, and give you a little push to assit you in take-off. As you stand up they'll give further instructions regarding and insights into improving between each wave. It's fun to watch students learn ... from the first awkward attempt at the beginning of the lesson to standing up with confidence by the end of the lesson.

The in-water intructional period lasts about an hour, and then students have another hour to practice what they've learned. Instruction, rash guard, reef walkers, and soft top board are all included. Minimum age for their lessons is 8, and everyone be able to swim and feel comfortable in the water.

Group Lesson: $75 per person with a maximum of 6 students per instructor

Semi Private Lesson: $120 per person for two or three people per instructor in a smaller private group

Private Lesson: $144 per person for one-on-one with an instructor

Surf's up! And on Kauai there is always perfect surf to learn the basics. Kayak Kauai Outbound was founded by Caribbean surfers in quest of the perfect wave. They have surfed little iki waves to the biggest that the Hawaiian reefs have to offer. From long board to short board surfing, small wave hot doggin' to big wave riding, the water beasts of Kayak Kauai Outbound are more than happy to find an excuse to get in the water and teach their stuff.

You are guaranteed to stand during your first lesson. They use soft top longboards that are easy for the beginner and emphasize safe surfing and wave dynamics Each lesson takes about an hour and a half and includes board and instructor. Children do great in lessons, but they should be able to swim and feel comfortable in the ocean.

Surf sessions are held 7 days a week at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Check in at Kayak Kauai’s Hanalei Shop. Transportation from Kayak Kauai’s location to the beach where lessons are held is included.

CRUISE SHIP PASSENGERS

Surf Lessons are available for cruise ship passengers on the afternoon of day one in port for ships that are spending two days on Kauai. The drive time is about 30 minutes from the dock to Poipu and about an hour to Hanalei. We can arrange a rental car for you for $38 per day including free shuttle pick-up to take you to the rental car. 

ACTIVITY TIPS

Learning to surf is surprisingly easy, but you can't just grab a board and head out on your own and expect successful results. One basic lesson to summarize board balance, paddling, and standing technique is essential. These guys guarantee that you will stand up during your first lesson! 

Kauai Surf Lesson Reservations

Upon submitting your activity reservation for processing, we will make reservations for you and send an e-mail confirming all of the details. These confirmations are often sent a few minutes after your reservation, but some activities take longer to confirm than others. You will receive an e-mail confirmation by the end of the next business day at the latest. There are no tickets that you need to pick up prior to your event. Your e-mail confirmation will have all the details you need to check in and enjoy your selected activity. This saves you precious time when you arrive in Hawaii. 

Please be sure that you have typed your email address perfectly; an incorrect address will prevent you from getting your confirmation details, and we will have no way of knowing that you never received your confirmation. We cannot be responsible for errors that clients make which causes them to miss their tour. If you do not see your email confirmation within 24 hours please call us right away to check on the status of your order.

A credit card is required to guarantee payment for your reservations, but the activities on this page ARE NOT CHARGED when your order is placed. These activities are operated by vendors who charge you at the time of check-in for your activity. Adventureinhawaii.com will provide this vendor with your billing information so that your space is reserved. Even though your credit card is not charged in advance, it is import to realize that you are making a confirmed reservation. No-shows will be charged in full by the activity provider on the credit card used to secure the reservation .

After making reservations, you may reschedule or cancel your activity up until 48 hours prior to its start (a few activities have 72 hour cancellation policies ... see your confirmation e-mail for details). Within 48 hours of the start of your activity all reservations are final and non-refundable (unless the event is cancelled by the vendor due to weather or other factors ... in which case you are refunded in full). Due to our incredible climate here, weather cancellations are rare.  No-shows and cancellations without adequate notice are charged in full on the credit card used to secure the reservation and are non-refundable.
